Snooki vs. Jessica Gianelloni: American Heroines

For those of you who do not know Snooki, of the famed reality series Jersey Shore, let me introduce you:

Snooki, Thinking Moms. Thinking Moms, Snooki.

Oh, you’ve not yet met? Too busy learning the complex nuances of methylation, huh? A little too caught up in those last chapters of Evidence of Harm to turn on the tube? Getting up at 4:00 a.m. to cook your kid an SCD diet so he doesn’t die really cuts into your Us! and People reading time? Yeah, I figured.

While sitting under the dryer getting my roots touched up (four months late), I saw this little peanut on the cover of a magazine and wondered what all the hubbub was about. I love learning about the next generation of Thinkers, so… I did a little investigating. You know how Thinking Moms loooove to get to the bottom of things!

Rutgers apparently paid her a whopping 32K to speak to their student body about, uhm…the GTL lifestyle. Gym, tanning, and laundry.

Yes, Thinkers. This little firecracker is who our little princesses want to emulate. They want to be tan, wear extensions, platform heals, g-strings, and spend their days caught up in the drama of beach life and high hair. Snooki’s final words to our future Thinkers were, “Study hard, but party harder!”

While American youths whittle away their time fantasizing about the Jersey life, the rest of us, who were admittedly doing the same thing in college (I think I watched enough Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones to cause early onset Alzheimer’s), are now parenting “special children.” You know, the 54% of kids in this country who have auto-inflammatory disease of some sort. Juvenile diabetes, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, autism, allergies, asthma, ADHD, and obesity. At the rate we’re going, this poor unassuming group of partiers will be marching their way into an incredibly difficult adulthood if they choose to be parents. Gone will be the days of planning bar outfits, lazy dishing with the girls over pedis, manis, tanning sessions and massages. It’s a whole new world, girls! One that you will not read about in the mainstream media. Your doctor won’t tell you about it! The nurse who administered that quickie Gardasil shot you squeezed into your busy schedule before that trip to Vegas (because you can never be too careful!) won’t tell you. Neither will your mom and dad. Or your pastor. Or your shrink. Or your girlfriends. Not even our worldly Snookie-pie.

But ya know who will?

Jessica Gianelloni.

Beautiful and brilliant blogger, wife, and holistic Thinking Mama of four gorgeous kiddos — soon to be five once a certain little bundle of energy and love, in possession of some fierce Ugandan dance moves, joins their powerful family. Jessica has been writing about TMR and our friends for quite some time. What makes Jessica unique is that she does not have affected children. Her mission is simply to take the knowledge she has been given and share it with the world. Please read her latest post about “A Different Type of Orphan.”

While she has been called to advocate for orphans, as is the case with everything Jessica does, she takes it a step further, goes the extra mile, and puts the finishing touches on research and information that others would have glazed over. She gets it. She gives us her time, her knowledge and that which we are most grateful for… her unending stores of energy and her unshakable sense of peace.

Yes, Thinking Moms are indeed a burgeoning institution/movement/powerhouse… but we are in no position to offer her 32k for all that she gives us… for free.

Our gratitude is all we’ve got. From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you, Jessica Gianelloni.

So, I leave you with this. We live in a country where someone like Jessica has to remove the names of her children from her blog because of the threatening hate mail she receives for telling the truth about vaccines and unclean food. Snooki, a Reality TV Star with no discernible life skills speaks at one of our country’s finest higher learning institutions for 45 minutes and receives 32k.

What are you going to do about it?

Respectfully, LJ Goes (The Rev)

P.S. Your child’s life depends upon your answer. Please. THINK.

We live in a very sad world… where Snooki gets paid thousands of dollars and can barely string together an intelligent conversation. The sunshine in this world are the Jessicas that fight for us when they could have walked away. Can you imagine how much good Jessica could do with 32K?

  12. Lynn says:

Isnt this a SAD way we live?
