Demonstration At The IACC

July 10th, 2012: Demonstration by the Autism Community led by the Canary Party at the IACC meeting in Washington, D.C.

The Canary Party believes the IACC has lost it’s legitimacy and it’s right to lead. They have organized a protest with a demonstration at 9:00am today. The Canary Party will be voicing their concerns during the Public Comments portion of the IACC Meeting mid-day, followed by a gathering in front of the Department of Health and Human Services in the Afternoon. In the six years that Tom Insel has led the IACC (Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee)  he hasn’t accomplished anything that has had a positive impact for my autistic son. Today he is gathering the new members of the IACC and including HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to join the meeting for the first time. The only outstanding comment I can remember Sebelius making about autism was in Readers Digest, March 2010 with a request to the press not to cover the vaccine/autism debate;

“There are groups out there that insist that vaccines are responsible for a variety of problems despite all scientific evidence to the contrary. We have reached out to media outlets to try to get them to not give the views of these people equal weight in their reporting to what science has shown and continues to show about the safety of vaccines.” ~ Kathleen Sebelius, Readers Digest, March 2010
